Ann Curry

Ann Curry, an American journalist and photojournalist who has covered natural and war-related disasters for nearly 45 years. Her focus is on the suffering of those in these areas. Curry reported on wars from Kosovo, Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Ann Curry was an American journalist, TV news reporter and host who is best recognized as a correspondent on the Today program a morning broadcast news program aired on NBC. Curry is well-known for her reporting of humanitarian crises and natural disasters, especially in countries affected by the war. Curry was born in Japan and raised by a Japanese mother. Her father served as a U.S. Navy sailor. The couple met when her father was stationed in Japan following World War II. Due to the military service of her father, the family has moved around several times. They finally arrived in Ashland Oregon where Curry attended the high school. She earned a journalism diploma at the University of Oregon in 1978. When she was a young woman she had the privilege of being exposed to diverse different cultures. Ashland was where she eventually finished high school. As an intern at KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregan, she began her journey as a broadcaster. She was the first female news reporter for the station at was just 22. Later, she moved into the post of anchor as well as reporter at KGW an NBC affiliate located in Portland, Oregan. Then, four years later she moved into Los Angeles and became a reporter at KCBS TV. She won two Emmy Awards during the six years that she worked for this station.
